Questions We Get Before the Truck Rolls
The Short Version
Most calls we get start the same way: a door that won't open, a spring that let go, or an opener that runs but the door doesn't move. We work on residential garage doors - torsion and extension springs, openers, tracks, rollers, cables, and panel sections. We're based at 4211 N Harlem Ave in Norridge, 60706, and that's where the truck starts every job.
A lot of the houses we get called to went up between 1938 and 1994, with most of that building happening in the 1960s and 70s. That matters more than people think. A door and hardware set from that era often doesn't match anything sold today - the track width, the spring mount, even the header clearance can be different from a house built in the last twenty years. If your door still has its original hardware, tell us when you call. It changes what we bring on the truck.
Winters here mean cold-soaked steel springs and openers that work harder in January than July. If your door has gotten slow or noisy as it's gotten colder, that's usually a spring tension problem, not a broken opener, and it's worth mentioning when you describe the problem on the phone.
Where We Travel
We're centered in Norridge and work the close-in suburbs around us. Harwood Heights is about a mile out, Schiller Park roughly 2 miles, and River Grove and Rosemont both about 3 miles. We also cover O'Hare-area calls (about a mile northwest of Norridge), Dunning (2 miles southeast), Norwood Park (2 miles north-northeast), and Portage Park (3 miles east-southeast).
Further out, we still take calls in River Forest, Stone Park, and Northlake, all around 5 miles, and we'll go as far as Hinsdale, Glencoe, or Western Springs when the job and the schedule line up - those run 10 to 12 miles from our Harlem Ave location. If your town isn't listed, call anyway. Distance from Norridge is the first thing we check when we're figuring out if we can get to you same day.
Work We Turn Down
We don't do commercial overhead doors or rolling steel gates - residential sectional doors are what we carry parts for and what we know cold. If you've got a storefront gate or a warehouse door, you need a commercial outfit, not us.
We also won't patch a door that's structurally done. If the panels are rusted through, the track is bent past square, or the door is old enough that hardware doesn't exist for it anymore, we'll tell you straight that replacement costs less over time than another repair. Given how much of the housing stock around here dates back to the 1960s and 70s, this comes up more than you'd think - a door that's been patched twice already usually isn't worth a third patch.
And we don't guess on the phone. If you describe a problem and we're not sure whether it's the spring, the opener board, or the sensors, we'll say so rather than quote a fix sight unseen. A wrong diagnosis wastes your money and our time.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work on garage doors outside Norridge?
Yes. We're based at 4211 N Harlem Ave and regularly work the surrounding area - Harwood Heights, Schiller Park, River Grove, and Rosemont are all within a few miles. We'll travel further for the right job; just call and tell us where you are.
Why does my spring keep breaking in winter?
Cold steel loses flex, and Norridge sits in a moderate-cold climate band, so springs work under more stress in winter than summer. If a spring has already gone once, the cold months put real strain on whatever's left of its wind count - that's usually when the second one breaks too.
My house is older - will you have parts for my door?
A lot of homes around here were built between 1938 and 1994, with most dating to the 1960s and 70s, so original hardware is common. We carry parts for older torsion and extension setups, but if your track or mount is a discontinued size, we'll tell you upfront instead of guessing.
Do you do commercial garage doors?
No. We work on residential sectional garage doors - springs, openers, tracks, cables, panels. Commercial rolling steel or storefront gates aren't something we stock parts for or take on.
